Project description:

The theme of Expo 2015 Milan is “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, urging participants to rethink the overall balance between natural resources used by humans and the need to preserve the origin of such resources: planet Earth.

With an architecture inspired by a sculptural baoba (tree of life), the Angola Pavilion distinguishes itself by its original and imposing façade, by its excellent location and implementation in space. An interactive and avant-garde space that symbioses the traditions of food with education for a sustainable future of the land and people

The sculptural baobab, placed in the center of the pavilion, is the starting point for this cultural and gastronomic trip, through the soul of Angolan expression with the resources of land and sea. The trunk and branches of the tree, with their fruits, represent the strength and the role of the Angolan woman. The female figure is honored as the guardian of tradition and promoter of education, essential in the production and preparation of food, influential in the cultural processes of motherhood and family, hygiene, health and safety, domestic economy, education and transmission of culture.

The pavilion was designed to be complementary to the exhibition with a very functional structure, with stages and zones for events and temporary exhibitions, laboratories and workshops, in which stands out a traditional restaurant, a laboratory restaurant and educational gardens. There is also an area dedicated to children.

The concept of the pavilion, portrayed the idea of the journey from the seed to the plate and was structured in three large spaces -between level 0 and 2, distributed in different exhibition areas. Along the way, three complementary spaces, composed by exhibition and leisure areas, complete the exhibition. The Angolan government was present at this event creating the largest African pavilion ever, achieving an absolute record of 2 million visitors and 5 awards including the gold award for best pavilion, a memory that will remain in the history of the country’s participation in world exhibitions.
