The Cork Welcome Center is a space for information and education about cork – from the forest to the final product. It is a showcase for the sector, providing information about the cork-oak, cork and its properties, as well as highlighting the multiple applications of cork and in the innovation of the sector, enhancing a unique and homogenous experience.
Cork is a fascinating universe to discover: culture, nature and future.
The growth rings of the tree and the cork planks that are removed lengthwise from the trunk of the cork-oak are the central element of the exhibition concept. The circular shapes and the different configurations of the geometry of the planks were integrated with scenic and graphic elements, on the walls, in the technological resources, signage and other exhibition supports. The sculptural elements act as a link with the surrounding space, throughout the exhibition route.
The Cork Welcome Center is organised into three main areas, according to their function: the Reception, the Exhibition and the Lounge-Foyer.
The first area – “Reception and Services Area” – is designed as a space for welcoming and receiving visitors, with both a functional and exhibition character. It is divided into two sub areas: one is a functional space for informing and welcoming visitors; and the other is for introducing the cork theme.
The second area – “Cork Space” – comprises the permanent exhibition space and the auditorium/purpose area. It combines mechanical exhibition resources, scenic elements, objects and digital resources, with proposals for individual and/or collective interaction. The exhibition furniture includes an interactive table for consulting extended information about cork products and industrial applications.
The third area – “APCOR Space” – has an institutional and resting character, with a large cork mural displaying the names of all APCOR company members.
An innovative experience with interactive, dynamic and adaptive exhibition environments and resources, designed and prepared to convey the values associated with cork: quality, performance, design, premium, aspirational, culture, sustainability and future.
