The Portuguese pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, is an architectural and cultural landmark that reflects the values of sustainability and Portugal’s deep connection with the ocean. Located in the ‘Empowering Lives’ thematic area, the pavilion was designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. The structure combines natural and modern elements, symbolising the harmony between tradition and innovation.
With a total surface area of over 1,800 square metres, it is an immersive and interactive space that invites visitors to explore the role of the ocean in human life and the importance of preserving it for future generations. The choice of theme reflects Portugal’s strategic position as a maritime nation, highlighting its history as a pioneer of maritime exploration and discovery, as well as its current commitment to sustainability and renewable energy.
The interior of the pavilion features art installations and interactive spaces that illustrate Portugal’s cultural, scientific and environmental wealth. It will host cultural events and presentations that promote dialogue between cultures and innovative solutions to global challenges such as climate change and ocean conservation.
